Man, sometimes you re-read your old pieces and think, I used to know how to write. What happened?

How about if you imagine you're reviewing your work, and figure out why it was good? Then aspire to be that good again?
And if that doesn't work remember that far more people read Johnson's Ramblers than the Lives of the Poets. You may not have any more Ramblers in you, but if you have a Lives of the Poets there's nothing wrong widdat.
